Diagnose and fix the most common issues with framed mini prints, from glass glare and crooked hanging to frame scratches and loose easel backs.

Quick answer

Most framed mini print problems come down to three things: where you place the frame, how you hang or stand it, and how you clean the glass. Fix the placement first, then adjust the hardware, and only clean with a dry or barely damp cloth. If the frame itself is warped or the glass is scratched, stop troubleshooting and contact the seller.

Glass glare that hides the artwork

Real glass protects the print but reflects whatever light hits it. The fix is rarely a new frame; it is usually a change in angle or light source. Move the frame so it does not face a window or a bright lamp directly. If the print sits on a shelf, tilt the easel back slightly more upright or angle it away from the light. For wall-hung minis, shifting the frame a few inches left or right can move the reflection off the artwork.

  • Turn off or diffuse the light source that creates the hotspot.
  • Reposition the frame so the glass is not parallel to a window.
  • Use a lampshade or move the lamp so light hits the wall, not the glass.

Frame keeps sliding or falling over

Easel-back frames can slide on smooth surfaces or tip if the easel is not fully opened. Check that the easel leg is locked into its notch and that the frame sits on a level surface. A small piece of museum putty or a non-slip pad under the easel feet adds grip without damaging the frame. If the frame still falls, the easel hinge may be loose; in that case, switch to the magnet backing on a metal surface or hang it instead.

Magnet backing does not hold on the fridge

Magnet backing works best on flat, ferrous metal. Refrigerator doors with curved panels or thick coatings may weaken the grip. Test the magnet on a bare metal surface first. If it holds there but not on the fridge, the door is likely the issue, not the frame. Clean the fridge surface with a damp cloth and dry it completely; dust and grease reduce magnetic contact. If the frame still slides, use the easel back on a shelf instead.

Dust, smudges, and fingerprints on the glass

Clean the glass only when needed. Start with a dry microfiber cloth to remove dust. For fingerprints, breathe on the glass and wipe gently with a clean microfiber cloth. Avoid paper towels and household glass cleaners; they can leave lint or residue that attracts more dust. Never spray cleaner directly on the frame or glass. If a smudge remains after a dry wipe, dampen a corner of the cloth with distilled water, wipe, then dry immediately.

Frame looks crooked on the wall

Small frames can shift on a single nail or hook. Use a level to check the frame, not the hook. If the frame hangs crooked, the hook may be off-center or the frame’s hanging hardware may be uneven. For lightweight minis, a small adhesive strip or a second hook can stabilize the frame. If the wall itself is uneven, a tiny bump of museum putty on the bottom corners can level the frame without new holes.

Diagnosis guide: symptom, cause, fix, and when to stop

  • Glare or reflection on glass: Light source is directly in front of or behind the frame. Move the frame away from windows and lamps, or tilt it slightly. If glare persists, consider a different wall or shelf location. If the reflection still hides the art after repositioning, the room’s lighting is the limit, not the frame.
  • Frame slides or tips over: Easel leg not fully open, surface too smooth, or easel hinge loose. Open the easel completely, add museum putty or a non-slip pad, or switch to the magnet backing on a metal surface. If the easel hinge is broken or the frame is warped, stop and contact the seller.
  • Magnet backing won’t hold: Surface is not flat ferrous metal, or it is dirty. Clean and dry the metal surface, test on a bare metal spot, and if it still slides, use the easel back instead. If the magnet holds on bare metal but not your fridge, the fridge door is the issue, not the product.
  • Dust or smudges on glass: Use a dry microfiber cloth first. For fingerprints, breathe on the glass and wipe gently. Avoid sprays and paper towels. If the smudge is inside the frame or the glass is scratched, do not try to open the frame; contact the seller.
  • Frame hangs crooked: Hook off-center or wall uneven. Use a level, adjust the hook, or add a small adhesive strip or museum putty at the bottom corners. If the frame itself is warped, no amount of adjusting will fix it; request a replacement.

Product facts

  • "The Old Guard" Mini Masterpiece Framed Print: Framed size is 3.5 x 4.125 inches overall with an ornate black easel-back frame and real glass. The small footprint means it fits on narrow shelves, but the glass can catch glare from nearby lamps.
  • "The Archer" Mini Masterpiece Framed Print: Includes an easel back for tabletop display and a magnet backing for refrigerators or metal surfaces. You can switch between shelf and fridge without extra hardware, but magnet strength depends on the metal surface.
  • "The Messenger" Mini Masterpiece Framed Print: Open edition miniature giclée print of “The Messenger” acrylic painting, print size 2 x 2.75 inches. The small print area means dust and smudges are more noticeable, so clean the glass gently and infrequently.
